The Nationals Candidate for Calare Sam Farraway has today written to three of the largest fuel companies in Australian, calling on them to visit Mudgee and participate in a round table discussion on fuel pricing.
In writing to BP Australia, Shell Energy Australia and Ampol Australia, Mr Farraway said petrol prices in Mudgee have been consistently high for more than a decade and it’s time to put forward practical solutions to negotiate a fairer deal for locals.
“Families in Mudgee are already facing steep cost-of-living increases, from groceries to electricity and housing. It’s time for answers and fair pricing on fuel as well,” Mr Farraway said.
“When it comes to fuel, Mudgee residents are paying more than surrounding towns—up to 30 cents a litre more—despite being on the same routes and distance from Sydney as Orange, Bathurst and Gulgong.
“Our local families and businesses should not be forced to bear the brunt of unexplained fuel markups while neighbouring areas enjoy fairer prices.
“I have written to the fuel companies inviting them to participate in a roundtable discussion which would include the Mayor, Councillors, Business Mudgee, and a selection of members from across a range of community groups.
“This would allow Mudgee residents to hear directly from the fuel companies and get a better understanding of why they’re paying so much more at the pump.
“Mudgee deserves answers—and a fair deal at the bowser. Let’s come together and work on practical solutions that make life easier for families and small businesses.”
